It’s another Monday. Martini Monday! Today we are celebrating the Cosmopolitan. That wonderful martini that packs a whole lot of girl power not to mention sexiness. Can a drink be sexy? Absolutely! If you have never had a Cosmo just fix this one and you will see what I mean.
The story goes that a South Beach bartender came up with the Cosmo because people wanted to order a martini, but didn’t really like a traditional vodka martini. I totally understand that. Please give my apologies to James Bond. This allowed people to order a martini, walk around holding a martini, but actually have a drink that they wanted to drink. There are lots of people wanting to take credit for inventing the Cosmopolitan, but I think that version is the most colorful and funny.
So let’s get down to the nitty gritty of making this martini. First do your very best Carrie Bradshaw impression. Got that down? Ok, now we are ready to actually make the drink. Grab a couple of pretty martini glasses, vodka, cranberry juice, sweetened lime juice, triple sec, a cocktail shaker, and ice. Put the ice in the cocktail shaker. Pour one and a half shots of vodka in the shaker. Follow with one and a half shots of cranberry juice. Add a half a shot of lime juice, and a half a shot of triple sec. Shake it. Shake it. Shake it like a Polaroid picture. Then strain the mixture into one of your martini glasses. For two drinks double the amounts listed.
Of course, you know that I love Tito’s vodka. Any quality vodka will be great in this drink. Make sure you don’t skimp on the ingredients for this drink. It’s just not worth it. Now, let’s talk triple sec. Triple sec got it’s name because of the distillation process. It is triple distilled. Its made from orange peels. If you have heard of Cointreau, curacao, or Grand Marnier then you have heard of triple sec because they are all versions of triple sec. They are just an orange flavored liqueur. That is the magic that makes this drink so good. It has the cranberry, the orange, and the lime all combined. Just so darn delicious. Also, all the girlie girls like me love the added bonus of it being this pretty womanly color. Kind of a pinkish-reddish bit of wonderfulness.
It really goes well with the Capicola wrapped asparagus recipe that I posted in Fast Fix Friday’s. You can read all about it here. The Cosmo is really the perfect drink to serve when a group of your best girlfriends come over. You certainly can’t go wrong when you serve this combination. Until will meet again, next Martini Monday… Stay sassy, stay cosmopolitan, and as always stay glamorous.
